2009 Performers
The Ro Han Mem Taiwanese Cultural Troupe
About the Troupe: The Ro Han Mem Taiwanese Cultural Troupe consists of students of Shih Chien University at Kaohsiung Campus, including members of the Sung-Jiang Battle Array and the Indigenous Cultural Service Team of the Department of Tourism Management, students of the Department of Fashion Styling and Management, and the winners of singing contests on campus.
Background Information: The Kaohsiung Campus of Shih Chien University is located in Neimem Township, Kaohsiung County. Neimem, formerly known as Ro Han Mem, is inhabited with different cultural groups that include southern Fukienese, Hakka, and Indigenous people. In 2008, Shih Chien University established the Ro Han Mem Taiwanese Cultural Troupe to foster students’ interest in learning about the diverse cultures surrounding them. In addition, the Troupe aims to reinterpret and enhance Taiwanese performance art in a creative and inspiring way.

Yuan Chi Dance
First taught by Master Shun Chao Li, founder of the Yuan Chi Research Society, at the Chinese Culture and Community Service Center (CCACC) in June 1998, the Yuan Chi Dance class has since become very popular with people of all ages. With its elegant movements and beautiful music, Yuan Chi Dance provides an entertaining way of exercise for health-conscientious individuals.

Tai Chi Gong Fu Fan
“Tai Chi Gong Fu Fan” combines the techniques of Tai Chi chuan, martial art, Tai Chi sword, and Tai Chi fan. In addition, Tai Chi Gong Fu Fan blends the music of Chinese opera with modern rock music, resulting in more colorful opening and closing movements when compared to traditional Tai Chi exercises.
Ryan Tsai - Trombone
Ryan Tsai is an accomplished trombonist of solo, orchestral and chamber performance. He was the first prize winner of the Baltimore Music Club Music Competition in 2006. As a solo trombonist,Mr. Tsai has performed numerous recitals throughout the Greater Maryland area as well as in his native country of Taiwan. His performances have received high praise from newspapers, including The Liberty Times, Washington Chinese News, The Dajiyun News, and The Albuquerque Tribune. Mr Tsao received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Soochow University in Taiwan and his M.M. degree from Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in Musical Arts at Peabody, where he is a merit scholarship student of Mr. James Olin. Mr. Tsai is the only trombonist in the last decade to have been accepted as a doctoral student at Peabody
Fairfax Chinese Dance Troupe
The Fairfax Chinese Dance Troupe is conducted by Stella Choi and Chin-Sui Lee
Chinese Calligraphy
Bing Jib Huang has done calligraphy demos for the Cherry Blossom Festival, DOT May Asian Heritage Celebration, and many local schools. His artwork has been exhibited in the US and abroad.
Yu Yu Team
Established in 2005, the Yu Yu Club of the Experimental Chinese School has since grown from 15 members to about 50 members. The club is taught by coaches Eric Tong, Annie Ma, Eric Chen and Bill Tsai.
